Humble Beginnings
When the markets crashed in 2008, I had a big problem on my hands. At the time, I wasn’t sure of much, but I was sure of one thing: I needed to work hard, or I might not survive.
An apartment complex hired me on to manage the maintenance, and I got some breathing room. While I was there, I really got good at fixing air conditioning and heating problems.
After 9 years, I was ready for something else, but I didn’t know what until I got a call I’ll never forget. That call changed everything.
A friend of mine was the general manager at a local restaurant. One day he called to complain about the company that was supposed to be taking care of their systems, and I told him I’d be right over.
Soon, other businesses started to call, and before I knew it I had enough customers to make me think I could go out on my own. I bet my life savings on that idea, and I haven’t regretted that decision for a single minute.
I like fixing things.
That’s really what it comes down to.
The idea of showing up and being handed a bunch of problems is something I’ll never get tired of. Leaving for the next job, knowing everything is taken care of, isn’t such a bad feeling either.
Since we opened 9 years ago, we’ve been growing. The whole time, I’ve been following the same playbook which customers respect. We show up, get right to work, and take care of everything for a fair price.
The more we follow that playbook, the more the phone rings. When I look at my list of customers, I can trace almost everyone back to a recommendation from another customer.
Before I knew it, we had expanded beyond commercial accounts and started servicing residential accounts. I added a second crew to keep up with the demand, and we’ve never been busier.
While we may not be the biggest company in Raleigh or have the fanciest ads or drive the most expensive trucks, there’s one thing that sets us apart from everyone else.
Our customers are happy.
